It’s the question on every parent’s lips leading up to the winter school holidays… what is there to do with the kids?
Many of our real estate agents are parents too, and they are just as keen as you to find fun things for the kids to do these school holidays.
Don’t worry, there are plenty of exciting activities to keep the kids busy even if the weather isn’t especially kind. And if your budget isn’t exactly blooming, there are always affordable activities to be found somewhere in Adelaide.
Outdoor Activities
Getting the kids outside on a sunny winter’s day is a good way to let them burn off a bit of pent-up energy – and save your sanity too!
- Head out to Port Adelaide for the free school holiday Come’n’Try Sports days! It’s a great way for kids of all ages to try a new sport and burn off some of that excess energy.
- Visit the Morialta Conservation Park where you’ll find Adelaide’s biggest adventure playground, waterfalls, picnic areas, rock climbing and hiking trails for the more adventurous kids in the family!
- Do you have a budding young Aussie Rules or cricket player on your hands? Why not take them on an organised Adelaide Oval Tour where an Interactive Kids Trail has activities for them to do while following in the footsteps of their sporting heroes.
Fun Indoor Activities
It’s nice to mix things up between outings and stay-at-home days, and kinder on the budget too. If you look, you can find plenty for the kids to do at home during the July school holidays:
- Believe it or not, there is fun to be found in your linen cupboard. True! Let the kids fossick and find sheets and towels to build an indoor cubby – no grownups allowed! They could even take their pillows and sleeping bags into their ‘tent’ and have an indoor camping sleepover that costs nothing but is heaps of fun.
- When you spend time baking with the kids, they have fun making something and eating it too! Make a pile of pancakes, a tray of brownies or even some cupcakes for them to decorate. Don’t worry – the mess will be worth it.
- Dive into the hall cupboard and find your stash of board games that will get the kids off the couch and into some fun predicaments. Maybe playing Twister, Exploding Kittens, Bananagrams, Uno or Pictionary will keep everyone active and laughing.
Free or Low-Cost Organised Activities
There is always something on somewhere in Adelaide during the school holidays that doesn’t totally blow the family budget.
- Check out the City of Salisbury’s school holiday activity program where you’ll find a wide range of fun and creative things for the kids to do for FREE, or as little as $5 per child.
- The Australian Space Discover Centre has a FREE school holiday program running between July 5th and 20th. The sessions for kids aged 7 to 14 run for 60 minutes and are a great way for kids to learn about the latest innovations in space technology.
- If your child loves dragons, the Churchill Centre has FREE dragon fun for kids of all ages! You don’t need to book, and it is creative, interactive and totally free with sessions from Wednesday 9th July to Friday 11th, and Wednesday 16th July to Friday 18th.
