Interior Design Trends:
What’s Hot And What’s Not?

The door has been shut on some common home styling trends that have outstayed their welcome in 2025.

Incorporating the latest interior design trends into your home this year means embracing a bold and brave mindset when it comes to colour, personality and passion.

Less Isn’t More

The bleached-bare blandness of minimalism has left the party, replaced by bold splashes of personality and character, but not clutter. Homes have permission to look like homes again, with starkness and brevity no longer welcome.

White Walls Are Fading Away…

Is white crisp and fresh, or cold and bare? White-on-white and cool greys are paling into insignificance as rich warm colours ooze back onto the scene. While layered soft whites still have a role to play, they are accenting deep mocha browns, earthy greens and red terracotta and magenta tones. Cool greys are making way for warmer shades, so fans of grey can switch to soft taupes to achieve warm beige-grey tones.

If you haven’t updated your chrome tapware yet, don’t worry. Along with matte black, rustic brass and rose-gold tapware trends, chrome has swum back into fashion with its timeless aesthetic, affordability and durability. If you want a change, try brushed nickel which blends well with the overall switch to a softer mood in home decor.

Long Lasting Furniture Pieces

Environmentally aware consumers are saying no to fast fashion in all forms, embracing repurposing and recycling instead. Within the home, second hand and vintage furniture pieces are not just easing our consciences but injecting more personality and energy into the space.

Art Expression

Affordable art, also called cookie-cutter art or mass-produced poster art, has become ho-hum. The art trend is shifting back to original art or limited-edition prints, fuelling the creation of more individualised home spaces with character and interest.

Timeless and Traditional Timber

The mood is downright moody! In keeping with the shift to deeper colour palettes, darker shades of wood are bringing more nostalgic and soulful vibes back into our homes, replacing the light and airy look of blonde wood.

Interior design trends seem to be tracking back to the styles we’ve long-past banished in our attempts to create the effortlessly light and airy spaces of the 21st century. But in homes that now have open living spaces, skylights, atriums and rooms drenched in natural light, a return to richer colours and darker timbers won’t recreate gloomy man-cave vibes, but instead introduce more personality, passion and expression, reflecting a society more in touch with its emotions.
